Too close for comfort!

Many of you have heard on the national news about Sanford, NC getting hit by the devastating tornadoes. Thank you to those who have sent emails, text messages, and phone calls. We do not have power or phone lines at home and the cell towers were destroyed so cell service is hit or miss in the area. Luckily our house was not hit but just down the street, houses were destroyed.

Last week I took this picture on my way home, just few minutes before our house.

It is the best parts of our commute are Ovation Farms and Misty Creek Ranch. Misty Creek was destroyed yesterday and it breaks my heart. I don't know if they lost horses and cows but I'm guessing they did. More pictures of their farm to come, I have to wait to get home and have power again to download. BUT, this is a picture from WRAL.com of this same stretch of road...just a bit farther back than I was.
I saw this devastation first hand as it was the farthest I could get towards home. I had been stopped at a road block 1/2 mile before this but the sheriff asked me to drive down and get an estimated time of completion from the chainsaw guys. It was literally just neighborhood men with their chainsaws trying to clear the road. An impressive view of community bonding for sure. I offered my truck if they needed to haul trees but at this point they were just trying to get debris off the road.

Sanford was hit hard. The Lowes Home Improvement is no more. That's what you see in the background of this next picture, the tangled metal mess. Pictures from WRAL.com

Across the street is (was) Tractor Supply where we go often, especially for dog food, plus a Big Lots and Food Lion. All were destroyed.

This truck is in that parking lot.

And obviously a stop sign doesn't belong in the grass.
We are thankful to be safe with no damage. I will write more later. Right now I'm at John's Starbucks so I can have a bathroom, phone service, and internet! But I have a very cranky Kaylee who doesn't understand why she's not at home sleeping in her crib. I suppose she could be, but that would require me to dig holes out back for a "bathroom" and as you well know, that doesn't fly with me. ;)

Then

During the last few weeks of pregnancy, Kate listened to Brad Paisley's new song "Then". She didn't just listen to it a few times, she obsessively played the song on repeat, learned every word, and sung it at the top of her lungs while driving. Then one day a few weeks after Kaylee was born, Kate was driving with Kaylee by themselves. Kaylee began to cry...then scream. It didn't matter how much Kate reassured her, pulled over to make sure something wasn't wrong, or attempted to hold the pacifier in place with one arm backwards while driving. It finally occurred to Kate that maybe Kaylee wants mommy to sing to her (although no one else would want this!). So Kate put track #4 on and began to sing. Kaylee immediately calmed down. Low and behold, it's not even mommy's singing that Kaylee likes! It's Brad's!
