Holidays

We've made the decision not to come to California for Christmas this year. It was one we struggled with, but financially we are not ready to plan such a large trip....keep in mind that we would have to board 2 large dogs which is a lot of money on it's own.

However, to ease my disappointment we are going to Boone, NC with our neighbors on the first weekend of Dec. We got a package deal for a one night stay at a local hotel with a "country Christmas" special where we take a hayride into the mountains (SNOW!!!) and get to cut down our own Christmas tree!!!! This has been a dream of mine since I was little....I'd still like to be able to do this while riding a horse and on my own property, but this will do for now!! Can't ask for everything all at once!! :)

We're celebrating Thanksgiving with the same neighbors. They have really taken us under their wings....we have been blessed with great neighbors!

We hope you all enjoy your holidays!

Fall is here...

Well, we don't have much to update on hence the reason for no blogs since our original one. We are loving our home and slowly getting things unpacked. John has put in the flooring in the majority of the house. The three spare bedrooms are still in need of flooring, unpacking, and organization but without anyone coming to visit us we really have no motivation to clean those rooms. :) (guilt trip?) My dad did come to visit for our birthdays last weekend. His friend Michele came also. With them, we celebrated: my birthday, dad's birthday, Michele's retirement, and John's and my anniversary...whew! Went to Fayetteville to a WWII museum that was fantastic and ate at our favorite restaraunt on the planet - Smokey Bones. :)

The dogs are great too. They are super muscular from running their acre all day long. They tree squirrels on a daily basis, but haven't caught any yet.

Work is work. John just moved to a new store that is closer to home (by 10 minutes) and is helping them open that store.

That's about it...come visit when you can! We miss you all!

North Carolina to date...

Hi Everyone!
Welcome to our blog...a place to keep updated on and stay in touch with our North Carolina life!

Our big news (actually, our ONLY news) is that we are in the process of purchasing our first home. Pending the inspection next week we will close on the home on June 15. The house is in Sanford, NC out in the county not witnin city limits. You can see the post below to find out the details.

I have been busy as a Family Counselor with Youth Villages. My region is out in Chatham County, one of the very rural areas of the state. I have 5 clients that I see three times per week in their homes. Our clients are ages 10-17 years old, but we primarily meet with the parents to help teach them parenting skills such as setting up rules and structure in the home. I can't even explain in words how much I enjoy my job and feel so blessed to finally be a counselor.

Gunner and Gauge are loving NC. They really loved Freddy and Candy's backyard...so much that they ate the trees, solar lights, and the deck. Due to the construction at their house now (see their blog in our links section to find out about all that!) our dogs have had to get used to hanging out in the apartment while we're at work and we're now regulars at the local dog park. They're still the same ol' loveable coonhounds.

John is alive and...yada yada yada...doing well.

That's about it for us... We hope you're all enjoying the beginning of summer! Come visit soon!

Then

During the last few weeks of pregnancy, Kate listened to Brad Paisley's new song "Then". She didn't just listen to it a few times, she obsessively played the song on repeat, learned every word, and sung it at the top of her lungs while driving. Then one day a few weeks after Kaylee was born, Kate was driving with Kaylee by themselves. Kaylee began to cry...then scream. It didn't matter how much Kate reassured her, pulled over to make sure something wasn't wrong, or attempted to hold the pacifier in place with one arm backwards while driving. It finally occurred to Kate that maybe Kaylee wants mommy to sing to her (although no one else would want this!). So Kate put track #4 on and began to sing. Kaylee immediately calmed down. Low and behold, it's not even mommy's singing that Kaylee likes! It's Brad's!
